Frequently Asked Questions
When and where is the Coaching Summit?
August 3 – 5, 2018
The Grand Summit Hotel
4000 Canyons Resort Dr, Park City, UT 84098
(435) 615-8040
What time should I plan to arrive/depart?
Summit registration is from 3 – 6 PM on Friday, August 3. The conference ends at 12:30 PM on Sunday, August 5. Please plan to be there the entire time – you won’t want to miss a moment! (Note, plan on 45 minutes to and from SLC Airport when booking flights.)
How do I get to the Coaching Summit?
Guests are responsible for their own travel to the Summit, including air travel and ground transportation. We recommend flying into Salt Lake City airport (SLC), and taking a rental car, Lyft, or Uber to Park City (a 45-minute drive). Carpooling is encouraged!
How do I reserve my room?
Please let Kristen Crandall (kristen@nullwhole30.com) know if you are attending the Summity by July 2nd, 2018. She will book your room, and can help with any extended dates you wish to pay for (outside of Friday/Saturday).
Please note, most Coaches will be sharing a 2-bedroom suite. Each bedroom has their own private bath, and they are connected by a shared living space (living area and kitchen). We do have a few single bedrooms reserved; if you have a need for a room by yourself, please let Kristen know.
Can I specify who I want to room with?
YES. Please email Kristen (kristen@nullwhole30.com) with any roommate requests you would like to make. If you don’t request a roommate, we’ll simply assign you one.
What’s included with my Summit registration?
Your registration includes lodging for 2 nights, as well as all food and non-alcoholic beverages (alcohol served via cash bar), a Whole30 Coach gift bag, and all Summit programming and activities. Note, gondola rides OUTSIDE of our Saturday night dinner are not covered in your registration.
I’d like to arrive early or stay an extra day at the Grand Summit! Can I extend my stay?
Yes. We’ve negotiated a special reduced rate at the Grand Summit for Coaching guests starting at $159, pending room size and availability. To inquire about availability for the discounted rate on Thursday or Sunday, please contact kristen@nullwhoe30.com. We’ll confirm availability at the hotel, reserve the room for you, and provide instructions to pay the hotel directly for your additional stay.
Can I bring my…
…children?
Children under the age of 2 may attend; however, they are not permitted in the ballroom during our key events. Please check with coach@nullwhole30.com if you plan on bringing your baby.
…nanny?
Yes. Please contact coach@nullwhole30.com to discuss options for caregivers.
…pets?
Sorry, pets are not allowed.
…significant other, friend, business partner, etc.?
No. The Coaching Summit is by invitation-only, and only registered Coaches are permitted at the event. While we can envision events in the future where friends or family members are welcomed, we want this event to be about connecting with your fellow Coaches and soaking up as much knowledge as possible. Spouses, friends, or family members cannot be included in the room blocks, or at any of our events.
Will there be Whole30 dining options available?
Yes! We’ll have both Whole30 and food freedom options for every meal and snack.
What’s the dress code?
We keep it casual, so athletic wear is acceptable 95% of the time! Plan to dress comfortably for the summer temps, which can reach 80oF during the day, but bring layers, because nighttime temps can dip down to 45oF. Bring clothing and footwear suitable for optional activities like yoga, HIIT workouts, and hiking, if you plan to participate. (You CAN hike in tennis shoes, as nothing we are doing will be super strenuous, but Melissa always recommends trail runners or shoes more appropriate for trails.) Don’t forget a swimsuit! And pack one “mountain casual” outfit for Friday night’s dinner. (Ladies, the terrain is uneven, so no stilettos! Wedge heels or flats are a much better choice.)
Do I need to bring a yoga mat?
Yoga mats will be provided during activities – no need to BYO!
I want to hike (on my own) before/after the event. Any recommendations?
There is hiking in Park City, but most of the beautiful trails you see on Melissa’s Instagram feed are on the SLC side. Use the free @alltrails app to search for the following hike ideas for more details. (There are also trails starting right at the Grand Summit, but we’ve not hiked them yet, so contact the hotel for details. Most of them start at the top, so you can either hike up or take the gondola up and start your hike from there.)
Park City: Deer Valley Silver Lake Trail (moderate, 3.5 miles RT). Starting at the Sterling Express chairlift at Deer Valley resort, you can hike up to Bald Mountain, then either hike down or take the chairlift for free. This is a short Uber ride from the Grand Summit.
SLC: Brighton Resort, Lake Mary (Martha, Catherine) (moderate, 2 mi RT). This is my vote, hands-down. First, it’s an easy drive from PC (across Guardsman Pass). Second, you can choose your own adventure; the hike to Lake Mary is just 2 miles RT (but steep, and at major elevation!), and it’s gorgeous. You can also continue past the lake (the views from the far end are the prettiest), to the smaller Lake Martha (on the right), up another steep climb to Lake Catherine… and up even higher to Catherine’s Pass and Sunset Peak (to the left).
SLC: Dog Lake, from Mill D North (moderate, 5 mi RT). Also super pretty (especially on the way back), about a quarter of the way down the same canyon as Brighton (Big Cottonwood Canyon). Another “choose your own adventure” here… you can start up the trail and head left at the clearly marked “Dog Lake” sign for another 0.6 (steep) miles, or head right for 2 more miles to the larger and quieter Desolation Lake. Also, across the street is a really pretty picnic area by the river.
SLC: Lake Blanche (hard, 7 mi RT). One of the prettiest hikes in SLC, about halfway down the same canyon as Brighton (Big Cottonwood Canyon), but this one makes you work for it. It’s 3.5-ish miles up, and steep AF. Plan on at least 2 hours up if you’re from sea level, and you’ll want to explore for a while at the top. (Head past the lake up and over to the other two on the left—Florence and Lillian—just as pretty.) Also, parking here is tight, so best to get here early.
Note: I’m only showing you SLC stuff in Big Cottonwood Canyon above, because it’s the shortest drive from Park City. If you have more time to explore (and a car), you can also look up hikes in Millcreek Canyon (Rattlesnake Gulch to Salt Lake Overlook, 3.5 mi RT/moderate—the first mile is steep and the rest is basically flat) is a sunset favorite, with stunning views of the canyon and downtown), or for something longer and more challenging, summit Grandeur Peak from Church Fork (7 mi RT/moderate). And a really fun one close to downtown is the Living Room trail (2.5 mi RT/moderate), which offers awesome views of downtown and a legit set of rocks build to resemble sofas. This one is always busy, FYI. Finally, a short one is Bell Canyon (between Big and Little in SLC) to the Reservoir or Lower Falls. (Lower Falls is 5 miles RT, and the last mile is STEEP… but you can stop at the reservoir, or take a nice trail all the way around the lake).
We have moose, but rattlesnakes are the biggest wildlife danger. Don’t run, no headphones, and just stay alert. I recommend tall socks (trails will be very overgrown by August) and hiking shoes, NOT tennis shoes, for any hiking you do around here.
